The artificial grass technology of a 3G or Third Generation pitch has improved significantly over recent years (From the early ‘Astroturf’ days) and provides a great alternative to natural grass yet meets all the FA, FIFA, Sport England accreditations as well as other sport governing bodies in the UK.
As an all-weather alternative to natural grass, 3G pitch surfaces are more durable and require considerably less maintenance which is why they are becoming increasingly popular. They can be used for competitive matches and tournaments where inclement weather would otherwise make playing on waterlogged natural grass facilities, prohibitive.
An engineered or dynamic porous sub-base provides a solid foundation for the 3G sport surfacing which can be tailored for the primary sport or activity that the pitch will be used for. eg. Football, rugby, hockey or simply recreational purposes. The pile is normally supported by additional base layers of sand and an infill of rubber crumb.
